Learning objectives

Six pillars
of competence

A pathway designed for specialist surgeons, combining technical mastery, a multidisciplinary outlook and ethical awareness.

01

Surgical technical skills

Observe and understand the most frequently requested procedures (chest masculinisation, vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, breast augmentation and body procedures), together with the relevant surgical anatomy and individualised planning.

02

Multidisciplinary care

Gain a holistic perspective that brings together surgery, endocrinology and psychology, taking part in team meetings and learning the criteria used to select candidates for surgery.

03

Psychosocial and ethical aspects

Understand the emotional and social considerations involved, develop patient-centred communication and reflect on autonomy, informed consent and respect for gender identity.

04

Assessment and follow-up

Recognise and manage the complications specific to each procedure, assess aesthetic and functional outcomes, and take part in long-term follow-up.

05

Research and academic development

Contribute to clinical and academic research, review the current scientific literature, and develop skills in writing up and presenting clinical cases.

06

Diversity and cultural sensitivity

Become familiar with the diversity of gender identities and learn to provide care that respects cultural, religious and social differences.
